On 21 June 1985, the first printed edition of X-Press Magazine hit Perth's streets. From humble beginnings as a small but plucky guide to Perth's nightlife, the magazine became a highly influential bible for all things music, art, fashion, food and drink in Perth. Curated by former X-Press editor Bob Gordon, the exhibition reflects on the magazine's cultural impact and legacy. With the title now owned by local media company Vanguard Media Group, it also looks to the brand's digital future. Join them to launch their newest exhibition, X-Press Magazine: 41 Years on the Streets. They'll be celebrating with an electrifying panel conversation with journalists, musicians and those closest to the magazine, who'll reminisce on war stories from the trenches of rock 'n' roll and print journalism and reflect on the changing tides of fashion, media and pop culture in Perth. The evening will also include musical interludes from Abbe May. Panellists Abbe May: ARIA-nominated WA musician and raconteur Bob Gordon: X-Press Magazine's longest serving editor Brayden Edwards: Current editor, X-Press Magazine online Joe Cipriani: Founder and former owner X-Press Magazine Toni Wilkinson: Leading WA photographer and long-serving X-Press Magazine snapper Moderator: David Craddock, Manager Engagement and Creative Programs, State Library of Western Australia

An immersive exhibition centred around newly recorded video oral histories of Menang Elders and a large-scale visual meditation on the Kinjarling/Albany landscape. This exhibition marks 200 years since colonisation began on Menang Country and asks visitors to encounter Kinjarling not as a backdrop to history, but as a living landscape with its own voice and memory. The stories within this exhibition have been recorded to add important new layers of meaning to the largely colonial maps, photographs and illustrations in the State Library's collection. Visitors will step into a quiet 6-metre-wide dome inspired by a kornt (a traditional shelter) to hear the Elders' stories. These include reflections by Carol Pettersen, Lester Coyne, Mark Colbung, Vernice Gillies, Doreen Hancox, Sharrlyn Maddren and a young Menang ranger, Cleve Humphries. This immersive experience also features a specially commissioned animation that reinterprets the State Library's collections through a Menang lens, weaving Menang artist and academic Shandell Cumming's artworks with centuries-old maps, photographs and illustrations to reveal new ways of seeing and understanding these materials. The exhibition gives new voices and stories to evocative landscape photographs taken by government and commercial photographers over many decades. This exhibition is curated by Denien Toomath, a Menang Noongar woman and Senior Partnerships Officer at the State Library. Produced by the State Library of Western Australia in partnership with the Community Arts Network.

The Book Of Mormon

Hello again, Perth! Australia's biggest ever musical comedy hit returns to Perth this October. The New York Times calls it "the best musical of this century." The Washington Post says "It is the kind of evening that restores your faith in musicals." And Entertainment Weekly says "Grade A: the funniest musical of all time." It's The Book Of Mormon, the nine-time
Tony Award®-winning Best Musical. This outrageous musical comedy follows the misadventures of a mismatched pair of missionaries, sent on a mission to a place that's about as far from Salt Lake City as you can get. The Book Of Mormon has truly become an international sensation.

Jacky

Jacky is a smart, enterprising young Aboriginal man making a life for himself in the city. He's skilfully navigating the gig economy, skipping neatly from office internships to cultural performances to sex work. But when his little brother Keith shows up unannounced, Jacky's carefully compartmentalised lives are thrown into chaos. Sharp, funny and unflinching, Jacky is a biting new play about family, work, culture, and the compromises we make to survive. With wit, grit and a wicked sense of humour, Declan Furber Gillick shines a light on the cost of navigating identity, ambition and connection in contemporary Australia. This bold new co-production brings two of WA's leading theatre companies together to deliver one of the most exciting new Australian plays of recent years. A work that is as confronting as it is hilarious, as personal as it is political.
